3 tips to help you study

Here are three tips that will help you study and do homework better - or are at least a good thing to try.

If you’re having trouble finding a study time or keep getting distracted, then this list is for you.

1 Getting rid of distractions

If you’re easily distracted by your phone or laptop, it can help to either put it on silent out of the way or even take it out of your room. Without having your phone in the room, it may feel as if you’re not missing out on anything happening online and focus on your work. If you need a device to do work, then find a way to block stuff like notifications, apps such as YouTube or other entertainment apps. On iPhone and iPad there’s screen time, for example. And if you feel a sudden itch to watch a video, then take a break - more on that below.

2 breaks

Breaks are really important - without constant pauses and a moment to relax you will become easily unfocused and it will be very difficult to learn or do work. According to study smarter UK, you should take a 15 minute break every 90 minutes or so, or a shorter one every 30-45 minutes; whatever works best for you. Just make sure that you’re not interrupting your workflow. I would advise staying away from a screen when taking a break- you can easily get distracted and end up spending an hour on TikTok or Instagram. Instead get something to eat, walk around the house, get a change of scene. Then when you go back to your work, you will feel refreshed and ready to work.

3 environments

Try to mix up where you work- sometimes, a change of scene can get you way more concentrated. For example, next time your parents are out, maybe work at their desk or at the dining table; you might see a big difference.
