What happened?
The NHS (National Health Service) has announced they will be launching a trial to test a cancer blood test. More than 140,000 people with an age range of 50 to 77 from around England have been recruited for the trial.
What is the Galleri blood test?
The Galleri blood test has been developed by a company called GRAIL. The test can detect over 50 types of early-stage cancers. The product has been already produced in the US and will cost $949 (£694.47). This test can detect cancer before any symptoms appear, will provide a better chance at treating it and could save thousands of lives.
When will the trial be launched?
The testing will occur in mobile clinics in a couple of weeks. Afterwards there will be more testing done every year.
How has everyone reacted?
The NHS Chief Executive Amanda Pritchard said: “By finding cancer before signs and symptoms even appear, we have the best chance of treating it and we can give people the best possible chance of survival.”
