What do video games promote?

Cognitive skills such as logical thinking and problem solving. Sensorimotor skills, such as quick reactions and good hand-eye coordination. Social skills such as teamwork and empathy, especially in multiplayer games.

How harmful are video games for children?

Children and adolescents who play video games excessively reported less time and social activities with parents and less parental affection. They also reported receiving a poorer education and living in a poorer family environment.

Why do people play video games?

Games make us optimistic, we learn to deal with challenges, to master problems. Not only humans, but also animals play games. They train skills that they need for survival, because rigid instincts are not always enough.

What is the most popular game right now?

The open-world game Minecraft is the most popular video game among young people: According to the JIM study, in 2022 around 19 percent of the young people between 12 and 19 years of age surveyed named Minecraft as their favourite game.

How long are children allowed to play on the computer during the day?

As a small guideline, you should consider: Pre-school children should not watch TV or sit in front of the PC for more than half an hour a day. Children between 6 and 8 years of age may spend up to one hour and children between 9 and 10 years of age up to 1.5 hours a day in front of the computer or TV. Children aged 11 to 13 should have a maximum of 90 minutes of free screen time per day or about 10 hours per week.
